What's up, Noon Anime crew! We've been on the edge of our seats following the wild ride that is May I Ask for One Final Thing?, especially the budding plot between Diana and Leonardo. The series has a world brimming with fantastic, limitless potential, setting the stage for unique conflicts and character moments. So, when Episode 7 put these two in the spotlight, we were all geared up for something truly special to unfold!
But instead of forging a new path, the episode took a sharp turn down a very, very well-traveled road. Did anyone else get a serious case of anime déjà vu? We were served a double-helping of the most classic tropes in the book: the hot springs episode and the summer festival episode. It's a combo we've seen a hundred-thousand times before. From the steamy bathhouse antics to the yukatas and fireworks, it felt less like a meaningful plot development and more like checking boxes off the standard anime event list.
While these familiar scenes can be cozy and fun, it's hard to shake the feeling that this was a massive missed opportunity. For a show with such a fiery protagonist and an intriguing setup, leaning on these crutches feels surprisingly uncreative. It leaves us wondering if the series is losing its bold edge in favor of playing it safe. We were hoping for a story as unpredictable as its lead, but this week, it was anything but.
